Simplest setup for local Windows VM

Hi there,

Sorry to bother you guys,
I desperately need help setting up a private instance in a Windows 2016/2019 VM.

What I am trying to do is to have the VM act as both the Agent and Server, and just send REST API calls with a 20-30 step script from the local network.

I have spent a lot of time (23 hours almost) in trying to understand and installing and configuring things trying to make it work.

I don't mind starting all over from scratch, but with how many hours I put into trying to figure this out, I just feel very stupid and don't know what path I should take when starting anew.


Can I have some guidance on how I should go about this?

The context again is:
1) A single Windows 2016/2019 VM running both the server and agent
2) REST calls to for a new job with 20-30 scripted steps/events will be made to the server by another machine in the local network

Any help would be a God Send.
