DNS Timing
(See attachment file with details from wireshark) here is a lookup for http://www.yahoo.com from Dulles, VA site. with resetting of time display in wireshark to 0 on AAAA query, it take close to 39msec before a first response and then 80 msec before the first SYN packets are sent to the back end server. two questions: 1) Do you include the entire DNS timing in your waterfall graph? 2) Isnt this very high for a small lookup for famous domains? - how can we reduce this to 20-30 msec range to be reasonable?. These probes should not be adding almost 20-30% of total time for DNS time - Is it fair to ask this time be reduced?. thanks. |
